By using liposuction to remove the excess fat around the neck and lower face area, patients can achieve a more contoured and youthful appearance of their face and profile. This simple procedure can leave patients with lasting results with minimal scars and recovery time. The team offers the neck liposuction procedure typically performed under local anesthesia (awake) or under general anesthesia (asleep) if the patient is combining the procedure with others surgeries.
A common cosmetic complaint that male patients discuss with us is the excess fat around the chin, cheeks and jowls, something that no amount of exercise can help with. To improve these areas of concern, patients may consider neck liposuction which offers natural-looking contoured results with few complications, discreet scars and a rapid recovery.
While the general term for this procedure is liposuction of the “neck and face area,” the actual area that is addressed involves the area below the jaw, the jowls and a small area of the cheeks. By making a single ¼ inch incision under the chin and removing subcutaneous fat with a small cannula, liposuction can easily correct these problem areas.
The best candidates for neck liposuction are patients with firm, elastic skin that have pockets of excess fat in specific areas. While age is not a major factor, patients should be physically healthy and have realistic expectations. Older patients may have poor skin elasticity, and might not have the same results as a younger patient with tighter skin.
The best way to determine if you are a good candidate for neck and face liposuction is to schedule a consultation with the team.
At SixSurgery, a neck liposuction procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia (awake) or under general anesthesia (asleep) if the patient is combining the procedure with other surgeries.
The surgeon will typically make a small ¼ inch incision under the chin and inject tumescent solution to minimize bleeding.
They will gently aspirate (suck-out) the subcutaneous fat with a thin cannula. Generally, the incisions do not require sutures, which allows open drainage to reduce bruising and swelling.
The surgeon will then apply a post-op garment to hold pressure on the liposuctioned area and the patient will be taken to rest in recovery.
After the procedure, you will typically feel sore for the next 5-7 days. For about 2 weeks straight, you will wear a compression garment around the head and neck area to help maintain the new contoured shape of the face and neck. Though you will begin to notice and be able to appreciate your new contoured profile at around 3-4 weeks as bruising and swelling fades, healing still takes time and the final results will be seen in around 6 months.

As with any surgery, there are some risks involved. Risks associated with neck and face liposuction include excessive bleeding, infection, swelling and blood clots, but they are rare. Our operating suite is state-of-the-art, and we do everything we can to minimize the risks associated with surgery. Most importantly, the team has various protocols in place to prevent complications from occurring.
There really isn’t much preparation for the procedure. You should, however, stop smoking 2 weeks before surgery in order to ensure a full and uncomplicated recovery.
Most patients feel well the next day. However, for best results, TCSI recommends that you wear a neck garment for two weeks 24/7. Although you could go without the garment, our clinic believes that wearing it improves the results and is critical for a good outcome.
