A Butt Lift is a procedure that will address and dramatically improve the appearance of a drooping or sagging buttocks due to weight loss or aging. While it is completely normal to have this drooping skin, it is also completely normal to want to make a change to the area to maintain a more youthful appearance! With this procedure, the SixSurgery team will tighten, lift, and firm the area while improving the overall shape and contour. They do this by removing the excess skin from the buttocks and the back of the upper thigh. This may also improve the appearance of cellulite!
During a butt lift, excess skin is removed to provide a more pleasing contour. It helps to remove large amounts of loose, hanging and sagging skin on the buttocks and the back of the upper thighs. Butt lift surgery may also improve the appearance of cellulite, returning the body to a more pleasing appearance after loss of skin elasticity due to extreme weight loss or natural changes due to aging.
Patients who have experienced extreme weight loss and are left with drooping, sagging skin are good candidates for butt lifts. Butt lifts offer patients smoother, toned buttocks that fill out clothing better, providing a boost in self-confidence. Additionally, candidates for butt lift often have:
The best way to determine if you are a good candidate for butt lift surgery is to schedule a consultation with the SixSurgery team.
The purpose of a butt lift is to remove excess skin and fat through surgical excision and liposuction. The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia.
During the procedure, the SixSurgery team makes an incision at the top of the buttocks, hips and groin or under the buttock cheeks to remove excess skin. This skin is then pulled tight. Liposuction may be used to provide additional contour to the buttock area and achieve a more balanced look. The incisions are then sutured together in layers to make sure that the skin stays tight. Drains are placed, and a compression garment is applied to help reduce swelling and to tighten the skin.
There are incisions involved, which will leave scars that diminish over time. If liposuction is used, there will be additional, smaller scars that will fade and will generally not be visible after healing.

Patients recovering from butt lift surgery should be prepared to lay on their stomach as much as possible during the first two weeks following surgery, and should avoid sitting any longer than 15-20 minutes during that time.
Once the anesthesia wears off, you will probably have some pain. This can be controlled with the pain medication prescribed for you by the SixSurgery team. You will also have swelling and redness following the procedure. In some patients, the swelling can take weeks or even months to resolve. It is critical that you do nothing strenuous, including lifting, for 4-6 weeks following your surgery. Butt lift surgery is quite extensive and requires several weeks of recovery. Patients can return to work or school in about two weeks, but full healing may take several months.
You will notice results immediately following the surgery, but it can take 2-3 months for the swelling to subside in order to see the full effects of the procedure.
Sitting for over 15-20 minutes
Laying on you back
Several other procedures that often accompany a butt lift include:
Used to remove loose, flabby skin on the thighs following an extreme weight loss. Provides a better, more proportioned contour and firmer look to the thighs.
Used for patients left with thin layers of fat below the skin in the hip, thigh, abdomen and buttocks after a huge weight loss; helps remove overhanging skin that is causing painful chafing, rashes or infection.
During your consultation with the SixSurgery team you can discuss your options for additional procedures and determine what is best for your particular situation.
Based on a review of your medical condition, you may be required to stop taking certain medications prior to your surgery. It is also extremely important that you stop smoking at least 2 weeks before surgery as the act of smoking thins out the blood and will increase the risk of complications.
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. The SixSurgery team will make several incisions, and excess skin and fat will be excised. If needed, liposuction will be used to provide additional contour to the buttocks. The skin is pulled tight and sutured, and a compression garment is applied.
Final results will be visible in about 3 months following the procedure.
There will be scars from the surgery, but they will fade in time. The scars from the liposuction, if used, will be barely visible once they heal.
