Synopsis:

Whether your cheeks have lost their natural sculpted shape, or you simply wish to enhance your natural beauty, fillers offer a quick way to add volume, and definition to a desired area. When the right amount of filler is applied in the right area by a skilled injector, you can see incredible results. Without screaming to the world that you’ve just had filler injections! In most cases, less is more in order to achieve beautiful, natural results.

Facial fillers can be used to create full, plump lips and cheeks. They can also be used to smooth any wrinkled areas of the face. To achieve this, we use Hyaluronic acid based injectable fillers, such as Juvederm, Teosyal, and Restylane. This addition of volume in carefully selected areas creates a more youthful, revitalized appearance.

Why Fillers?

There are many reasons why you may consider fillers. Whether it is age related facial changes, or you simply wish to enhance your natural beauty, fillers offer a quick and simple way to enhance your beautiful face.

In the hands of a skilled injector, a filler applied to just the right area with just the right volume can make you look great, without screaming out to the world that you had filler injections.

Facial fillers are used to plump up lips and cheeks, and “fill in” or smooth problematic areas of the face, which appear wrinkled and tend to make a person look older than his or her actual years. To achieve this, we use Hyaluronic acid – based injectable fillers, such as Juvederm, Teosyal, and Restylane. This addition of volume in carefully selected areas creates a more youthful, revitalized appearance.

What are Fillers

Hyaluronic Acid-based injections add volume to plump up your facial fillers and fill in any wrinkles or depressed areas. Our fillers come with freezing, so once injected, the area goes numb for about an hour. The treatment is done without the need for any freezing or sedation. Our very fine needles, and expert injection technique mean that your experience will be simple and painless. In case of lip injections, we offer a numbing cream as well, for patients that request it.

The injection treatment itself takes only minutes. Following the treatment, you will experience some swelling. However, this is very minimal. You might see and feel the swelling, but others won’t be any wiser. You will be able to leave our facility without any signs that you had anything done. That is the hallmark of a great injection. Making others compliment you on your good genes!

Juvederm is designed to address the signs of aging, often referred to as the “3 D’s” of aging. These include:
  • Deterioration: resulting in fine lines, wrinkles and changes in skin texture
  • Descent: resulting in droopy or sagging skin
  • Deflation: resulting in loss of full features or volume

All of these treatment areas are non-surgical and the results are not permanent. If you are looking for a permanent solution, our nurses can discuss different options, including a brow lift, blepharoplasty and other procedures that will require a separate surgical consultation.

What to Expect

Injectables fillers are impossible to wipe off. That is why it matters who performs your treatment.
An experienced injector is a professional who has an excellent understanding of your facial anatomy, a keen eye for beauty, and a safety record you can trust. The key to a natural-looking result is having an experienced injector. The key to a safe result is an expert knowledge of facial anatomy. Lack of understanding can potentially lead to a disaster. And nobody wants a serious medical complication.

Getting Fillers Step By Step

  • STEP - 1

    Steps to Enhancement

Prior to any injectable treatment, all patients at the Toronto Cosmetic Surgery Institute and the Skinjectables Cosmetic Clinic must be assessed during a consultation. You will then meet with one of our highly trained injectable nurses who will recommend a personalized treatment plan and answer any questions you may have.

We require our patients to come in for a consultation. We recommend that you schedule an appointment ahead of time to make sure you do not have to wait long for your treatment.

  • STEP - 2

    Prior to Injections

Before injecting Juvederm, the nurse may use a topical or injectable anesthetic to numb the treatment area. Some of the new Juvederm products, like Juvederm XC (for “extra comfort”) contain lidocaine, which makes a separate anesthetic unnecessary. The procedure involves injecting Juvederm under your skin using a very fine needle. This is done to restore volume and smooth fine lines, wrinkles and folds. Once the injections are completed, the area is gently massaged. The whole process is fast and easy, generally lasting anywhere from 15-60 minutes, depending on the amount of area to be treated.

  • STEP - 3

    Post Treatment

One of the top benefits of Juvederm injections is the minimal amount of downtime involved after your injections. For the first 24 hours, you should avoid any strenuous exercise or activity, excessive sun and exposure to heat. You should also avoid consuming alcoholic beverages. This helps minimize any injection related reactions, including redness, pain, itching and swelling. Most patients experience no reactions or have only mild discomfort, which clears up in 7 days or less. Placing an ice pack on the injection site if you have swelling can help.

Types of Filler

We used Hyaluronic acid based fillers, which is a natural substance found in the human skin. It has the ability to attract and bond to water molecules, which helps the skin maintain volume. It helps keep the skin firm, and plays an important role in the shape of your features and the lubrication of your joints. We use it to add volume to lips and cheeks, and to fill in deep wrinkles or to contour a face in a non-surgical manner. Hyaluronic acid has been used successfully to smooth out wrinkles for more than 10 years.

Often, products like Juvederm are used to work in tandem with Botox to smooth out facial wrinkles when Botox alone won’t produce the desired results. Hyaluronic acid works well in cosmetic surgery applications because it can absorb up to 1,000 times its own weight in water, adding substantial volume to the surface of sagging skin. This helps older faces appear more youthful, because hyaluronic acid also binds with collagen – the material that supports human facial skin.

Risks and Complications

The face is a delicate anatomic structure. Understanding the underlying vascular anatomy is essential for safety. Unintended injection into a blood vessel can lead to serious complications such as pain, swelling, and in rare cases, blindness. It is for this reason you only trust a real expert with your face.

How does Juvederm work?

First, the Juvederm gel is injected into the middle skin layer, adding volume and fullness and smoothens facial wrinkles and folds. Next, it integrates into the skin tissue, attracting and binding water molecules to help maintain volume in the injected areas.

Is it safe?

Yes! It has been approved for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds.

What’s the difference between Juvederm and Botox?

Juvederm is a natural cosmetic filler, filling the deep wrinkles that are permanent. Botox blocks nerve transmission, relaxing the and weakening the muscles that cause wrinkles.

When will I see results?

Results are immediate, continually improving for 1-2 weeks after the injection.

How long is the recovery period?

There really isn’t a recovery period, as the discomfort and downtime is minimal. There may be some mild swelling, which will resolve in a week or less.

Does it hurt?

In most patients there is no pain. Very sensitive areas can be numbed with a topical or local anesthetic if needed.

How long does Juvederm last?

Juvederm is a natural facial filler with results that last for 6-12 months. It is the only filler available with the highest concentration of hyaluronic acid. As the effects begin to wear off, the procedure will need to be repeated.

I had Cold Sores in the Past. Does it Affect Anything?

If you have had cold sores in the past, even if it only happened once in your lifetime, you need to be given an antiviral medication prior to any lip injections to prevent a recurrence of a painful cold sore. Let us know and we will prescribe you a medication that you will need to get two days before your treatment and continue to take for a three days after.

How much does Juvederm cost?

700+/syringe depending on the area and product used.
